Before the flop you should raise with Ace/Queen suited. If
you get a raise back, then reraise. The reraise might get some folks
out while it is cheap to do so. Depending on the flop it might buy
you a free card by making the other players hesitant to bet into a
reraiser. A suited Ace/Queen as almost as many possibilities as
Ace/King but you have to be aware of the gap. As in:
Ace,GAP,GAP,GAP,Ten. Like almost all hands the best time to play
these hands is in late position but a raise from the Blinds can set
you up to steal the blinds or set up a semi-bluff. You want to get
the other poker players out and fussing with their chips, and cursing
their luck.
If you do not flop your flush, and the odds are about 65 to 1 that
you won't, be prepared to back way down on betting. You still have
the straight draw but if you flop an Ace, your kicker is getting
weak.
Pay close attention to the board if you did not flop the flush or
straight or at least the flush or straight draw. There might be some
dummy who called the raise and reraise with a 6/7 off suit and saw
5/8/9 flop. There might be someone drawing to a different flush than
you are. His odds are the same as yours but lighting does strike. So
if you are looking for diamonds and you see two or three clubs,
hearts, or spades hurry back to the porch. This is not your time to
run with the big dogs. All of a sudden it not about winning with the
Ace/Ten Suited but it now about saving money and preserving your
stack.
