Just suppose that you have 1000 players entered into a tournament. Each is given $500.00 in chips. Par is set then at $500.00 before a card is turned. The total amount of chips in the tournament is $500,000. When there are one hundred players remaining a par stack would be worth $5000. If you have $3000 in your stack at this point you are below par. If your stack remains close to par you are doing good. If your stack is way above par, focus. You could win the tournament.
